Looking for new interactive resources for the classroom can be fun but can also take a great deal of ‘Googling’. Here are a few I’ve found recently that might save you a bit of time.
The first site is stuffed with excellent resources for English and Maths (among others) from the fertile mind of Stewart Davis of Sandfields Comprehensive School. Amazing work Stewart!
Many of these can be used online but there is also the facility to download them should you wish to do so. A personal favourite is the ‘dictionary dual’ game. Great fun!
For all the mathematicians out there, tucked in the corner of Stewart’s webpage is a link to some excellent resources from the Scottish Maths Curriculum. One I particularly like is the ‘Equation Balance’ Excel resource (see below).

This visualises that ticksy subject, algebra, in a way that makes perfect sense to less able learners. What’s more, the spreadsheet is interactive making it perfect for students to use on an IWB.
Mind you, you will have to download a copy of the resource and then make sure that your security settings in Excel allow macros to be run before opening the downloaded spreadsheet. If that sounds like gibberish, just follow the instructions below.
Instructions for changing security settings in Excel and thus opening files that have macros
There are two steps to complete before you can enable macros in Excel. First follow the route in the image below and click ’security’.

Then set your security level to ‘Medium’ and click ok.

Now open the resources from the Scottish Maths Curriculum. When you do so, you will see the dialogue box below. Press the button marked ‘Enable Macros’ and away you go.
